Writing is fairly a lonely process that’s best enjoyed without the presence of anything keeping you away from doing it. Whether you perform the craft for a living or are just passionate about sharing your ideas and opinions on a blog, getting rid of distractions is essential if you hope to get any thoughts flowing and believe it or not, most of the diversion comes not from people or your environment but from everything else you might have going on in your desktop.
Today’s software is loaded with a bucket of valuable features but every so often it’s those features that get in the way. The less you’re able to see of everything else, the more you’ll concentrate on what’s on your plate and myTexts is an application that I’ve been tinkering with lately that abides with that notion.
You don’t need to worry about the glitz and glamour of eye-candy filling your screen. myTexts’ integrated automated environment helps you focus almost automatically on writing. Simply put, you don’t have to worry about pesky pests like windows, buttons or formats. No mess, no fuss. myTexts truly turns your Mac into a supercharged typewriter. The application falls under the genre of those full-screen, menu-free word processors whose only purpose is to focus you on writing. Nothing else matters.
myTexts uses a database to store all your documents, with auto-save and auto-backup. The entire document library is searchable, tag assignment is available and your documents can be exported in a variety of formats.
The entire user experience feels like a combination of WriteRoom and Yojimbo with some customizable features that gives you some enjoyment in seeing that blinking cursor move and move.
Ultimately it’s the outcome of all your effort that’s gone into writing that matters but having software that facilitates the process is worth noting.
